    XVI.A.1.e. PSI-J

The psaj encodes a polypeptide of about 36 amio acids, and a deduced molecular mass of 4100 Da (for a review see Andersen and Scheller, 1993). PSI-I is conatins a hydrophobic domain. Hydropathy plots indicate the presence of one central embrane-spanning alpha-helix. It is loosely bound the PSI-A, PSI-B heterodimer. Alignment of PSI-I and PSI-J shows a very weak sequence similarity. PSI-J exhibits however, a high sequence similarity to D1 of PSII. It is beleived that PSI-J is involved in the binding of PSI electron acceptors.

A query for psaJ addressed to the various protein databases listed in the Biology Workbench, yielded 26 records which are depicted under Sequenced PSI-J. These sequences can be used for Sequence Similarity Searches or other manipulations using one of several routines described in the Biology Workbench or elsewhere (see AntheproW which can be downloaded via anonymous ftp from: ibcp.fr; pub/Antheprot/Windows/anthe 3_1 directory). For example a Blast Sequence Similarity Search of tobacco PSI-J addressed to the Biology Workbench (SwissProt database) is depicted below.
