XVI.B.2.a. CP43
CP43 is a chloroplast encoded polypeptide (psbC gene)(for a general review see Akerlund, 1993). It is exclusively Chl a binding (20-25 Chl a molecules). The polypeptide is closely associated with the reaction center. In addition to light harvesting it has been suggested that CP43 is also involved in anchoring other PSII apoproteins. CP43 appears to be an integral membrane protein with four membrane spanning helices (Rebeiz, unpublished).
A query for CP43 addressed to the various protein databases listed in the Biology Workbench, yielded 24 records which are depicted under Sequenced CP43. These sequences can be used for Sequence Similarity Searches or other manipulations using one of several routines described in the Biology Workbench or elsewhere (see AntheproW which can be downloaded via anonymous ftp from: ibcp.fr; pub/Antheprot/Windows/anthe 3_1 directory). For example a Blast Sequence Similarity Search of tobacco CP43 addressed to the Biology Workbench (SwissProt database) is depicted below.
